New WebsiteDate:01 Aug 2011New website style active - watch out for some new features soon! Evening News Article - King's Theatre gets ready for 50th Gang ShowDate:12 Jun 2009
THE 50th annual Gang Show will be staged at the King's Theatre this year, and past performers are being urged to come forward and join in the celebrations.
The performance by Edinburgh scouts and guides has featured more than 3,000 people since it first appeared in 1960. Rehearsals for this year's show are already underway, and the anniversary celebrations will include a reunion, a spring ball and a camp at Bonaly Outdoor Centre.
Director Andy Johnston, 40, first took part in the show in 1980 as a 12-year-old scout.
He said: "If you think that we are going to sing old fashioned campfire songs, deliver corny gags whilst wiggling our woggles, I can assure you – we won't. The material is bang up-to-date, challenging and, put simply, fantastic. The cast of over 200 young people are ready to deliver a knockout performance and I can tell you now – they will. It's very exciting."
He is trying to track down past performers, particularly members of the original 1960 cast.
Contact him on 0131-229 3756 or by e-mailing via www.edinburgh-gangshow.com.
This year's show will run from 17 to 21 November.

The Daily Record - Scout Out Gang Show Packed With Talent Date:14 Nov 2008Gang Show 2008 King's Theatre, Edinburgh
DIB. Dib. Dib. It's that time of the year again, folks - Gang Show time.
Most Boy Scouts and Girl Guides spend the year learning to build fires, tie knots, pitch tents and earn their badges, but every November Edinburgh's Cubs, Beavers, Scouts, Brownies and Girl Guides come together to put on a show worthy of serious theatre-goers' attention.
Gang Show isn't just a jumped-up school-type stage production - it's an integral part of the capital's theatre calendar. Last year, the youngsters tore in to Britney Spears as well as belting out tunes by Queen and gathering great reviews along the way.
This year, Hearts' chairman, Vladimir Romanov, the city's trams, Donald Trump's proposed golf course, and Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand get it in the neck.
With Gang Show director Andy Johnston - a quality comedy writer in his own right - penning the majority of the script, expect the mums and dads in the audience to be laughing as much as the kids. There's going to be more than 200 Scouts and Guides on the stage, many of them performing songs and comedy sketches for up to an hour-and-a-half straight.
Future talents, then? Former Gang Show member Craig Chalmers went on to star in BBC1's Any DreamWill Do, as well as performing in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Maybe today's Scouts and Guides will go on to become the stage stars of tomorrow. Go along, let your hair down and enjoy yourself. It'll be fun - Scout's honour.

The Gang Show Red NeckerchiefDate:17 Nov 2006
Tonight approximately 30 cast members were invested into the Edinburgh Gang Show. The simple ceremony involved the whole Edinburgh Gang, wearing Scout or Guide Uniform, in acknowledging the effort and commitment shown by the new members of the cast. Each new member was presented with the famous Red Scarf, the symbol of Gang Shows worldwide. They were then welcomed into the worldwide family of of Gang Show.
The Red Scarf emblazoned with GS on the back of the scarf has a long and fascinating history. In 1932, at the dress rehearsal of the first ever London Scout revue 'The Gang's All Here', the skipper Ralph Reader had set all the Scouts in their Finale positions, but something just wasn't quite right. So, before the Opening Night the whole Gang were presented with a red scarf to make the Gang on stage like Scouts from the same Troop. The effect of 100 Scouts wearing bright red neckerchiefs with their Scout Uniform was dazzling and so began the tradition of Gang Show Red Necky's.
Each Gang Show has to earn the right to wear a Red Necky. High standards in all areas have to be achieved over a period of 3 successive shows. Edinburgh Gang Show was granted permission in 1964, and this has been worn with great pride ever since.
Everyone who was ever presented with a Red Necky will have shown a commitment not only to Gang Show but to Scouting and Girlguiding in the greater sense. The Red Necky is an award keenly sought after and great pride is shown by all who wear them.
Well done to the new members of Edinburgh Gang Show! Welcome.

Happy Booking! Chief Scout Sends Message to the GangDate:06 Oct 2006TV Actor/Presenter and Chief Scout of the United Kingdom sends Good Luck message to the Edinburgh Gang!
With just a few weeks left of rehearsals before the cast of the Edinburgh Gang Show take to the stage again for GANG SHOW 2006, they have received a message from the Chief Scout.
In a message to the 250 young people and 100 adults involved in the Gang Show, Peter Duncan said, "The performing arts are close to my heart so for anyone who learns their lines, remembers the dance steps and sings as best they can, deserves all the applause they will receive at the end of the night. There is no greater motivation than aiming to be the best you can on the opening night and nearly always the hard work pays off.
The moment you are in the spotlight in front of an audience will be something you always remember. For those behind the scenes it is a great adventure too and just as important - a star performer is only as good if he or she shares the limelight - so even if you're just sweeping the stage you're in showbiz!
So good luck to the Edinburgh Gang Show on your November 2006 Show and may there be many more to come.
"Break a leg!"
With Best Wishes,
Peter Duncan CHIEF SCOUT
